The European Design Awards is the comprehensive annual awards organization acknowledging the best of graphic design, illustration and digital design in Europe.

Three reasons why the ED-Awards are the best of their kind

The ED-Awards boast the most qualified jury in Europe, composed of representatives from the leading European design magazines. They are design journalists and critics, whose job is to recognise and promote the best of communication design internationally.

The ED-Awards are truly a pan-European competition. Last year submissions came from 29 different European countries (with the top country submitting less than 20% of the total number) and winners came from 21 countries (with the top country achieving about 25% of total prizes). The jury members themselves come from 13 different countries.

The ED-Awards receive the widest publicity in the design awards field. Agencies and designers who excel here, get the best coverage available. The reason is simple: the ED-Awards are based on a network of design media.

Find out how you can enter the European Design Awards 2012 here

CAP&Design covers visual communication, both digital and in print. The magazine is the source of knowledge and inspiration to graphic designers and anyone who work with information. Among the readers are designers but also art directors and others who work with graphic form. It could be architects, photographers, communication experts and many other occupational groups who, in one way or other, get in contact with visual communication every day.

The magazine writes about what is done, who is doing it and how it is done. The aim is not only to show good graphic form, but also to explain why it looks like it does and how it is meant to work. We strive to analyse the communication that is produced and to find the core in the eternal chase for the answers to: What is good graphic design? and What lies behind good graphic design?

John L. Walters (originally a composer and musician with a degree in mathematics) joined Eye as managing editor in 1997, and was appointed editor in chief in late 1999. During his tenure the magazine has produced many memorable issues, including specials about typography, the public realm, branding and self-promotion, that are treasured and quoted by designers and design students alike.

In addition to editing Eye, Walters writes about creative music and multimedia for the Guardian newspaper and elsewhere. He was also the chairman of the judges for the Magazine Design Awards 2005, and was an external examiner for the graphic design context course at Central Saint Martins for four years (from Magazine data 2003-06).

serious students. The title takes a broad view of the industry and culture, providing riveting reading matter and an eye-popping feast of visual material, from design history to today’s cutting edge. Eye’s content-driven method is to presenting outstanding work in a straightforward manner, together with critical writing: substantial features, short regulars and an extensive section of reviews.

Though Eye regularly ventures into the broader fields of visual culture, the quarterly has maintained its authority through high editorial standards, great writing, clear but innovative layout, a constant appetite for production values, featuring many prominent specialist writers worldwide, while at the same time encouraging practising designers to voice their opinions on the subject.
