John L. Walters
John L. Walters (originally a composer and musician with a degree in mathematics) joined Eye as a managing editor in 1997, and was appointed editor-in-chief in late 1999. During his tenure the magazine has produced many memorable issues, including specials about typography, the public realm, branding and self-promotion, that are treasured and quoted by designers and design students alike.
In addition to editing Eye, Walters writes about creative music and multimedia for the Guardian newspaper and elsewhere.
He was also the chairman of the judges for the Magazine Design Awards 2005, and was an external examiner for the graphic design context course at Central Saint Martins for four years (from Magazine data 2003-2006).
